Donald Scholz, CFP®, MBA

Senior Wealth Advisor & Chief Investment Officer Emeritus

I follow a philosophy that our founder, Bill Marshall, instilled in me: Do what’s best for the client, and everything else will fall into place.”

Don’s Role at Marshall Financial

Don came to the financial services industry by a non-traditional route: After studying at the seminary, he earned an MBA with a finance concentration, then worked as a computer programmer, budget analyst, and strategic planner. But his love of working with people proved a strong pull, attracting Don to wealth management.

“My objective was always to be in a position where I could help people financially,” he says. “I like that my role involves working with people on a very personal level.”

As a Senior Wealth Advisor, Don takes the lead in developing strategies that can help each client reach their life aspirations, whether it’s retiring early, supporting a worthy charity, or pursing a life-long passion. As one of our most tenured financial planners, he regularly shares his insights and experience as a mentor to our younger advisors.

Get to Know Don

Don finds it rewarding to provide clients with something they truly value: peace of mind. “Our guidance can help people gain the peace of mind that they’ll be in fine shape, however they define that,” he says. For some, “success” goes beyond building wealth; it means using their resources to create a life of significance. Many seek Don’s advice on how to do that through philanthropic efforts that can make a lasting difference.

Don enjoys wine-making—a tribute to his late father-in-law, who taught him the craft. “I make both red and white wine, starting with grape juice from California, Australia, or South America,” he says. He was even ambitious enough to make the wine for his youngest daughter’s wedding reception, busily pasting on labels the night before. Don is also a long-time cantor at his church, where his wife is an organist and music director. They have three children and four grandchildren.
